Welcome to Owlit! These Terms of Service govern your use of our reading companion products and services. By using Owlit, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Owlit's products and services, including our hardware devices (Owlit Clip and Owlit Glasses), mobile applications, and website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our services.
2. Description of Service
Owlit provides AI-powered reading assistance tools designed to help children learn to read. Our services include:
- Hardware devices that capture text from physical books
- Real-time speech recognition and reading analysis
- AI-powered coaching and feedback
- Parent/teacher dashboard and progress tracking
- Mobile and web applications
3. User Accounts
To use Owlit, you must create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use our services on behalf of a child.
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Owlit is designed for use by children under parental supervision. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and require verifiable parental consent before collecting any personal information from children under 13. Parents have the right to review, delete, and control the collection of their child's information.
5. Subscription and Billing
Owlit requires an active subscription to access AI coaching features. Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually as selected at signup. You may cancel your subscription at any time, and cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing period. Device purchases are separate from subscription fees.
6. Hardware Warranty
Owlit hardware devices come with a one-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. This warranty does not cover damage from misuse, accidents, or unauthorized modifications. We offer a 30-day return policy for unopened devices in original packaging.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Owlit only for its intended educational purpose. You may not:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse engineer our software or devices
- Share your account credentials with others
- Use the camera/microphone features for purposes other than reading assistance
- Attempt to circumvent any security features
8. Intellectual Property
Owlit and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Owlit Inc. and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. The books your child reads remain the property of their respective copyright holders.
9. Limitation of Liability
Owlit is an educational tool and not a replacement for professional reading instruction or diagnosis of learning disabilities. We make no guarantees regarding specific learning outcomes. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Owlit shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages.
10. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new terms on our website and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Owlit after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
